During the Spring term we will be learning different styles of writing from narrative to newspaper reports. We will continue to use our writing process which allows the children to opportunity to become more independent writers and editors, resulting in a 'perfect piece' which they are proud of. 

Our current piece of writing has been based around the childrens story 'The day the crayons quit'- this links in with our whole school world book day which involved staff and children dressing u as crayons.



Spellings will be sent home on a Friday as part of the weekly homework pack.It is vital that your practise your spelling and learn them off by heart.  We will have a spelling test on a Monday however, if you don't score high enough, you will be tested on the same spellings on a Friday where we expect to see an improved score. Please help your child by encouraging them to practice their spellings regularly.

As part of our daily learning, we will be having Guided Reading sessions and Reading Plus sessions. Within these sessions, we will be learning how to improve the fluency and speed of our reading, learning how to retrieve and answer questions based on the text and also looking at test technique which will help prepare us for our SATs next year. The children will also be bringing home a reading book and we encourage you to listen to your child read and record this in their reading records.

We want all children to take pride in their work and neat handwriting is part of this aim. We are having a huge push on handwriting within Year 5 and our aim is to have all children on a pen license. To achieve this, children must ensure they write neatly, consistently and joined up.
