Year 4 is such a wonderful year and we are really looking forward to our new learning and exciting times to come.  We are building on all of our previous learning in Year 3 and will have lots of fun along the way. We love sharing our work with you as we continue through our busy year. Make sure you check out our webpage and Instagram for regular updates and new pictures of your child's learning. From making electrical circuits in Science to creating Festival Feasts with clay, our learning is always interesting!

Times tables MTC June 2025

We are worikng hard in class to ensure we are ready for the Multiplication Test Check in June 2025. This is an online test which children complete in school. Our children will have lots of practice beforehand and there's no time like the present to start practicing those times tables skills.

Spellings

We will also send home spellings on a Monday for a spelling test on the following Friday. If your child doesn't do as well as we know they can with their spellings, they will be retested to ensure we bridge any learning gaps.  Please help them to practice their spellings as this greatly improves their understanding of vocabulary.

PE

During Summer term we have swimming on a Monday afternoon, please ensure your child has their swimming kit in school on that day. We will be swimming at Newton Fitness each Monday until we break up in July.  We also have outdoor PE on a Thursday. Please ensure that your child has full school PE kit on a Thursday and as the weather is warmer, a sun hat and a water bottle too.

Reading

Reading Plus

!We love using Reading Plus and achieving new levels and combos. #WeLoveReading

Library visits

We love visiting our school library each week!

We enjoyed going to our wonderful school library to share some of our PSHE books. We voted for, and enjoyed Mrs Hodgson reading, ‘I’m going to make a friend’, which was a funny story about friendship that was perfect for being back to school after the summer. #WeLoveReading #ReadingForPleasure #PSHE #SEL

Book Fair

We really enjoyed the book fair!
We shared some stories, read with our friends and chose books that we’d love to buy. #BookFair #WeLoveReading #SmallReadsBigDreams #ReadingForPleasure

Fireside Friday

We  were super excited to receive a special gift!  It was a non-fiction book (301 awesome facts rugby edition) that we shared in Fireside Friday

Roald Dahl Day

We celebrated Roald Dahl Day - it was his birthday so we explored some of his beloved children's stories and characters. We enjoyed reading The BFG!

Our Favourite Five

We have been choosing 'Our favourite five' books each week. We have a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books in our wonderful class library and we are super excited to read them! #WeLoveReading #ReadingForPleasure #OurFavouriteFive

National Poetry Day

We're improving our oracy skills - celebrating National Poetry Day, we recited a poem written by Paul Delaney. We also wrote our own poems.

Poets in the making.

To celebrate Bonfire Night, the children wrote their own poems inspired by fireworks, crackling flames and the night sky.

Maths

TTRS Day

We absolutely loved our TTRS day!

From dressing up as rockstars to challenging our friends in some maths learning; from testing our quick timestable recall on TTRS to singing our timestables to a Taylor Swift tune, we had an amazing day.

Learn and share

Our Year 4 Times Tables Learn and Share brought parents and children together in school to practise multiplication skills and discover creative ways to build confidence at home.

Protected Characteristics

As part of our Protected Characteristics learning in PSHE, we have shared the story, My beautiful Voice, which is a moving, lyrical picture book about a shy child unlocking the power of their own voice through poetry, with the helping hand of an extra special teacher. John 1:12 tells us 'I am a child of God' - all our voices can be powerful and beautiful, however small.

First Aid

Years 4 have been learning what is meant by first aid and how to respond and react in an emergency situation. We've been learning basic life support,  how to contact the emergency services and what to say to them. We also learnt about bleeding, allergies and asthma. #FirstAid #KeepingSafe #PSHE

World Mental Health Day

To raise awareness of good mental health and the need to prioritise and invest in good mental health, we have been thinking about the feeling ‘overwhelmed’  as part of World Mental Health Day.
We share stage wonderful story, A voice in the storm’ to support our PSHE learning. It’s important to remember that it’s okay to ask for help, no matter what you, or anyone else, is going through. #PSHE #MentalHealth #HealthyMe

World Kindness Day

On #WorldKindnessDay, we used our #PowerForGood by giving each other compliments.

PAThS

As part of our daily practice, we check in with our feelings and we celebrate all the wonderful things about each other with our PAThS Pupil of the Day!

We give our POTD compliments - this could be something they're good at, something we like about their appearance or something about their character.

Our POTD is encouraged to give their self a compliment and this is taken home for a compliment to be given at home too. #PAThS #PSHE

Picture News

In our Picture News we learned that we are all individual, here we have talked about what is important to us.

We explored 70 years of Guinness World Records and discussed how we can set goals, challenge ourselves, and aspire to achieve amazing things. #PictureNews #PSHE #BritishValues #Aspirations

We have been discussing Picture News’ big question - Should fireworks be changed so we can protect animals and people at the same time? We know that fireworks can be exciting and wonderful to watch, but they also remind us that our fun can sometimes affect others and the world around us. Celebrations can mean different things to all of us. We thought about our own feelings about fireworks and shared our views; we are big fans of light shows and the use of drones! #PSHE #PictureNews #BritishValues #IndividualLiberty

To Know You More Clearly

“I promise that I will give you as many descendants as there are stars in the sky or grains of sand along the seashore. Your descendants will conquer their enemies.”

We thought about God’s promise to Abraham and what it means.

Prayer and Liturgy

Holy Communion

Look at our amazing Year 4 children, who are preparing for their Holy Communion later this year.

Mini Vinnies

Our amazing Year 4 Mini Vinnies are always spreading kindness throughout our school.

Stay and Pray

Year 4, along with Year 3, had a lovely morning attending their ‘Stay and Pray’ session with their parents/carers. We have such a beautiful church. Thank you to everyone that was able to join us.

History

We have enjoyed using our knowledge box to research the Ancient Greeks.

Geography

Art

Storytelling through drawing

We really enjoyed our ‘Storytelling through drawing’ topic.
We explored our artist, Shaun Tan, before creating richly illustrated narratives, contained within a single picture, inspired by poetry. We explored Manga and created our own comics before creating a folded poetry zine as our finished piece. #Art #WeAreArtists

Design and Technology

Structures: pavilions

We explored building 3D frames in our ‘Structures: Pavilions’ lesson, in #DT, this afternoon. We produced a range of free-standing frame structures of different shapes and sizes.

Clonter Opera

What a fantastic day we had at Clonter Opera. From songwriting and composing, to lighting design, costume design and set design - we have been fully immersed in theatre production!

P.E.

We love our PE lessons!

We’ve been learning how to play hockey; learning how to pass the ball accurately, how to defend effectively and how to play a game.

Music

Year 4 have been working hard in Music. We’ve been learning ABBA’s hit song ‘Mamma Mia’ (even having a sing off; girls v boys!) and we’ve started to play notes on the glockenspiels to accompany the backing music.
