Year 6

Welcome to our Year 6 class page!

Class Teacher - Mrs Phillips

Teaching Assistant - Mrs Moloney

Year 6 is such a busy, but wonderful year!

We have the RobinWood residential to look forward to at the end of September. Swimming lessons each Monday in the autumn term, and the wonderful Learn to Work sessions with St. Helen's Chamber, which start in the first half-term and continue through to the Spring term, culminating in a fantastic careers carousel.

The children develop their roles in our wider school community and all children become buddies to our Year 1 children, which is such a privilege. The children look out for the younger ones and help them in the dinner hall, on the playground and with their reading.

Of course, being Year 6 and the oldest in the school, the children have the opportunity to put themselves forward for a variety of different roles of responsibility such as Head Boy and Head Girl and Deputy Head Boy and Girl and Class Prefect  and Sports Captain roles.

The children are working towards their SATS, which, in 2024, start on the 13th May and all the homework tasks set will be to consolidate learning in the classroom.

There will be opportunity for your child to attend Fun SATS club after school and during the Easter holidays.

And...what the children look forward to most about being in Year 6, is the end of year production!

Keep checking in to catch up with what the children are doing throughout the year as we will be updating our page regularly.

Year 6 have had five "Learn to Work" sessions, since September,  with St. Helen's Chamber, culminating in the last session on March 5th - a Careers Carousel. These wonderfully planned sessions have helped to raise the aspirations of our children by encouraging them to identify their own skills and strengths and understand the different routes into both higher education and the workplace, through apprenticeships. Thank you to the local businesses who gave up their time to come and talk to our children about different careers whilst promoting and encouraging hard work, belief in themselves and their own ability and boosting their self-confidence. We were so proud of our children and their wonderfully polite and respectful attitude towards the visitors.

Feedback from St Helen's Chamber:

" It was lovely to see how confident the children were chatting to employers and showing off their fabulous manners, which many of the visitors commented on as they were leaving."
