Year 2

Welcome to our Year 2 class page!

Class Teacher - Mrs Whittaker

Teaching Assistant - Miss Stowell and Mrs Derrick

In Year 2, we will have so much fun with our learning! This year, we will build on all our wonderful learning from Year 1 and expand our knowledge with new and inspiring topics such as The Great Fire of London, coding, Rwanda and Neil Armstrong. Year 2 is such an exciting year as the children are already settled into the routines of 'big' school and can enjoy their school days without any worries! We begin each day with a lovely, calming story chosen by our children from the library as well as some positive affirmations! I have linked one of the videos I use below so you can have a go at home!

As well as our day-to-day lessons, we have so many fantastic experiences to look forward to, such as library trips, visits from drama groups, the nativity and so much more!

We can't wait to share our Year 2 journey with you all as we tackle each new challenge along the way. Please click on the links below for all your child's learning.

Religious Education

To Know You More Clearly

In To Know You More Clearly, we enjoyed learning all about baptism and  being  part of God's family.

Stay and pray session

We welcomed all our parents and carers for a stay and pray session this half term. We explored the theme of 'peace' through a beautiful story called 'Peace is an offering.' Our children then created peace doves and talked about ways in which we can spread peace in  out school.

         Design Technology

We have planned, designed and made our very own moving monsters through exploring different mechanisms.

Maths

In Maths we have been learning all about Multiplication and division!

This week we have been looking at staying safe online. We have talked about our trusted adults we can speak to and what information is acceptable to share online.

School Library visits

Year 2 have enjoyed visiting our school library this half term.

Watch this space next half term for our Year 2 handwriting heroes!

Year 2 loved getting our new books from St Helens Library Service, each day we enjoy reading for pleasure.

This term, we have been reading 'The Incredible boy who loves to eat books' and 'The Owl who was afraid of the dark. 'We have published some amazing pieces of work focusing on extended noun phrases and conjunctions.

The History of transport.

We have been learning all about the history of transport, from Viking Longboats to creating a timeline of flight!

PE

It’s wonderful to see our children embracing gymnastics with such enthusiasm. The skills they’re developing—balance, coordination, confidence, and perseverance!

PAThS

As part of our daily practice, we celebrate all the wonderful things about each other with our PAThS Pupil of the Day!

We give our POTD compliments - this could be something they're good at, something we like about their appearance or something about their character.

Our POTD is encouraged to give their self a compliment and this is taken home for a compliment to be given at home too. #PAThS #PSHE

Protected Characteristics

We have shared 'Riley can be anything' as part of our Protected Characteristics learning. We used our voices and thoughts to think about our own goals we would like to achieve. #PATHS #PSHE

Art

In Art, we are exploring the world of mono print through our famous artist Xgaoc'o X'are.

Prayer and Liturgy

Year 2 have done a great job leading our Prayer and Liturgy sessions on a Monday!

Science

Science Day was a fantastic opportunity for our children to explore how exercise affects the body. It was wonderful to see them investigating real‑life questions - measuring heart rates, observing breathing changes, and discovering how movement keeps us healthy. This helped our young scientists understand their bodies in a fun and meaningful way.

P.S.H.E

Children’s Mental Health Week gave our pupils a wonderful chance to reflect on what makes them feel safe, calm, and truly themselves. With the theme “This is my place to be,” the children explored the spaces both real and imagined—where they feel happy, supported, and confident.
